Fire Up Your Inspiration
After deepening into the practice of taking small steps for progress (see related posts), a friend of mine
came up with Microscopic Optimism. (He was already really optimistic in an inspiring kind of way).
The point is to find any small thing whatsoever, in life, right this moment, that can be improved. It might be your sitting posture, adjusting your sock on your foot, or change on word in an email you're currently writing. It doesn't matter how small thing it is you are improving, in fact it's better the smaller it is, as long as it is easy to do.
The Nano Success Journal
Then we came up with a tool for deepening into Microscopic Optimism, as well as improving life. It's the simple idea to write about any small, positive thing that happens to us. It not only helps us focus our mind on these things (to keep shaping the brain), but also makes us go deeper into it, since writing does that (try it!). You can make such a journal for yourself, or you can try it out online (see below).
What It's Good For
A lot of research shows your brain sees writing differently than thinking or talking. Writing forces you to organize and clarify your thoughts."
– Eric Barker (http://www.bakadesuyo.com/2013/07/personal-writing/)
- You mentally reward yourself every time you improve something, meaning you feel better no matter how small improvement you make (try it!).
- You learn to focus on being positive and constructive, which means you get a good mindset to keep at it.
- To think strategically like this actually rewires the brain! (See Exponential Success.)
Try It Online and Go Even Deeper with the App
There is a Nano Success Journal available online on Reddit: LevelUpLife SubReddit
There is also this app that goes even further, and calculates experience points from your journal: LevelUp XP Calculator
Nano Sequence Optimization
All of these things here were just the preliminaries of a great discovery: Nano Sequence Optimization. What that is will be covered next up in this article series.
